DEVICES FOR USE IN DEFINING AND MEASURING VEHICLE SEATING ACCOMMODATION

1974-01-01
HISTORICAL
J826B_197401
The devices of this standard provide a method of passenger compartment dimensioning using a deflected seat rather than a free seat contour as a reference for defining seating space. A system of dimensions which may be used in conjunction with this standard is described in SAE J11001. The devices described in this standard are intended for applications concerning seated occupant accommodation space only and are not to be construed as instruments which measure or indicate occupant capabilities or comfort. Additional detailed specifications and full-scale drawings of the devices may be obtained from SAE by ordering drawings supplementary to SAE J826. A videotape film of the installation procedure is also available.

Motor Vehicle Dimensions

2009-11-20
CURRENT
J1100_200911
This SAE Recommended Practice defines a set of measurements and standard procedures for motor vehicle dimensions. The dimensions are primarily intended to measure the design intent of a vehicle within a design environment (i.e., CAD). All dimensions in this practice can be measured this way. In addition, some dimensions can be taken in an actual vehicle. If measurements are taken on physical properties, some differences in values should be expected. Also, care should be taken to not confuse design intent measurements with those taken on a physical property. It is intended that the dimensions and procedures described in this practice be generic in their application to both the HPM, described in SAE J826, and the HPM-II, described in SAE J4002. In some circumstances, the figures may only reflect one or the other.

Unless otherwise specified, all dimensions are measured normal to the three-dimensional reference system (see SAE J182), except ground-related dimensions, which are defined normal to ground. All dimensions are taken with the vehicle at curb weight unless otherwise specified. All dimensions are measured on the base vehicle and do not include Regular Production Options (RPO) or accessory parts, unless otherwise specified.

J826/1
This document describes the CAD model data available from SAE for the HPM-1 three-dimensional H-point machine. The elements of the CAD model include the outer surfaces of the cushion and back pans, datum points and lines, and calibration references. The intended purpose for this information is to provide a CAD reference for design and benchmarking as well as a calibration reference for the physical HPM-1 audits. The content and format of the data files that are available are also described. The actual CAD model files are included with this product and are provided in the following formats: CATIA v4 (without parametrics), CATIA v5 (without parametrics), IGES, and STEP.

J3099
This practice presents methods for establishing the driver workspace. Methods are presented for: Establishing accelerator reference points, including the equation for calculating the shoe plane angle. Locating the seating reference point (SgRP) as a function of seat height (H30). Establishing seat track dimensions using the seating accommodation model. Establishing a steering wheel position. Application of this document is limited to Class-A Vehicles (Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, and Light Trucks) as defined in SAE J1100.
